Travel from O’Hare Airport to Purdue?

Monday, March 30th, 2009

I would like to get from O’Hare International Airport in Chicago to Purdue on Sunday March 22, 2009. My flight arrives Chicago at 7:35 p.m. I tried the express Air Coach but they are full and I also tried Amtrak but all the seats are sold out. Anyone know how I can get from O’Hare to Purdue that same night for less than $65?

Travel regulations from US to Germany?

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Ok, I have a few questions, actually…

Background: I am flying from Pittsburgh to Chicago with American Airlines. Then I will be flying from Chicago to Frankfurt with Air India. I booked both flights at the same time through a travel site, and so are part of the same itinerary. FYI, I’ve looked at the websites of each airline I am using, but I don’t know if one takes precedent over the other; I’m just checking to see if anyone can make what the airlines/government say less confusing.

American Airlines says there is no charge for two checked bags for international flights. Will this apply to me, even though my trip with AA will be domestic? Or will I have to pay the $15/$25 fees for two bags?

I wanted to take a carry-on bag and as a personal item have a pillow with a blanket inside, wrapped around the pillow. Will this personal item be allowed on both airlines? Air India’s website mentioned nothing about personal items (that I could find anyway).

At what point will I go through customs on my trip? Do they charge for you to go through customs? I found a chart saying how much % they will charge for specific items, but it did not say if this applied to everyone or just to businesses bringing in goods to be sold… (I just don’t want to be taxed for taking my digital camera and laptop, lol.)

Thank you for your help!

best subarbs of chicago?

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

We are thinking about moving to Chicago and would like peoples opinions on the best suburb. We need to consider house pricing and schools for our toddler. I would like a 45 min. commute by train to downtown at the most. I would also like a suburb w/ a downtown area. Some have suggested Palatine, Schaumburg, Naperville, and Evanston (too expensive housing). Any thoughts? Thanks.

What are the best cities to visit in North East USA?

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Myself and a few mates are planning to visit this area in August. We’re going to fly into Boston (Logan Intl.) and from there work our way down the coast using trains for approx 3 weeks before booking an internal flight to visit Chicago. Just wondering would anyone have any good tips on where to go. At the moment its Boston - New York - DC, but any other ideas would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Air travel?

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

I want to visit this friend of mine in WA state during my spring break. It may take me a while to get there, because I have various options: I can do early morning flight and have a stop in TX, then be in WA in 2 hours time, but my friend cannot manage to meet me there at the Seatac airport at that time, so my only other option is to go to the airport and such sometime in the morning so I can get to my flight that departs 15 till 1 PM and arrives in Chicago at 2:35, and then I have a 50 minute layover, and my flight from Chicago to Seattle departs at 3:25 PM, and I arrive in WA at 6:12 PM. Now I know all the details and such, but what more? I’m not taking more than one suitcase, can I just use that one I take as a carry-on?

I wanted to ask this ahead of time so I can know what to plan in the future.

Why do illegal aliens from Mexico sneak across the border instead of just going through the border checkpoint?

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

If you go to a border town like El Paso, you will see thousands of Mexican citizens crossing into the U.S. every day to shop, visit relatives, go on vacation or whatever. So why do people risk their lives swimming the Rio Grande, crossing deserts, or packing into 18 wheelers when they could just drive their car or take a taxi, bus or train across the bridge? They could say that they are going on vacation to Disneyworld or visiting realtives in Chicago.
OK, I did some research and there is a lot of wrong information in this thread. First of all, a visa to the US costs $131 (see here http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1263.html). Second, the wait time for a visa from the Mexico City consular is currently 9 days (see here http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/temp/wait/tempvisitors_wait_result.php?post=Mexico+Cityx=56y=16). The point about criminals not being able to get a visa is a valid one though there are plenty of women/children and non-criminals sneaking across.

CTA Blue line from O’Hare to McCormick Place - Safety?,Security?, Clean?

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Hi:

I will be traveling to Chicago for a trade show (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday in April) and was wondering about the public tranportation there. I hate to rent a car for 3 days not ever having been there before. $12 for a 3 day pass sounds good, but how are the trains buses on travel time, safety, security, cleanliness, etc.? Where should I go on my free (???) time for some great Chicago food at a budget (under $25) price? I will need to pick up a souvenier for my 12 year old son and something nice for my wife and daughter. Any suggestions? Thanks and I look forward to visiting!!!
