what is the best way for me to travel from chicago to Ludington… like train or bus. i don’t have a car

I’m going to be travelling in a greyhound from chicago to des moines. I’ll be buying my ticket from the station itself. This is an overnight bus.
Do I have to be worried about anything in particular?
As I’m going to be a first time greyhound-traveler… can you please tell me what kind of people i might face during the journey.

I’m going to be taking my first day trip to Chicago. I’m thinking of taking the Metra train either from Kenosha or Waukegan. Are there any tips or hints from anyone when taking the metra. I also see there is a $5 weekend pass but I can’t find where to purchase those. Are they at the stations and does there have to be an attendant as I know not all stations have one? Then, once I get there, I see there are free trolleys to get around. Is there an abundance or would it be better to take the bus? I’m looking to do a few tourist things, Shedd aquarium, Navy Pier maybe, a museum, and would love to catch some really good authentic Chinese food. Any recommendations on that would be great also! I am coming to Chicago for a 48 hour film festival, and I will be driving in from downstate. I am only bringing two big bags with me, so I will be mobile on foot for buses or train access. My main question is, since I have only a little money to sustain me for the week,

Does anyone know a cheap way to park my car in the city, or a way to park outside the city, and bring my two heavy bags into the area near the Hancock building?

I’m open to walking a couple miles for the right deal, but obviously, the closer the better. And if it helps, I have a student I.D. from a community college down here in Peoria.

To start off, I’m planning to go to Schaumburg in November. I’m going to be arriving by bus, but the closest bus stations were in Elgin and Chicago. Elgin in 10-20 miles away, while Chicago is something along the lines of 38-48 miles away, as well as arriving in Elgin is cheaper. However…

Questions:

1.) Does anyone know if there are any AVAILABLE taxi services in Elgin? I searched the yellowpages and could only find services in Chicago.

2.) Does anyone know the taxi fare rates in Chicago if i were to travel 38-48 miles from there to Schaumburg?

I’d of course, prefer to go from Elgin to Schaumburg, instead of Chicago, but if that option isn’t there, then suppose I don’t have much of a choice?

Recently, I relocated from California to Illinois. During the first year of residing I was mugged and had my wallet stolen Unfortunately, this before I had the oportunity to obtain an IL drivers license. Living in Chicago I can use the train and have maid due with my passport.until recently

My California D.L. has since expired and need to request my previous driving records form the state of California. Unfortunately in order to obtain this information, I need my CA license number which was stolen.

Is there any way of finding out my expired drivers license number from a state in which I no longer live?

My mom I want to take a trip to Chicago for a couple of days. (In late December) We want to take the train and would probably use a taxi to get around? Are taxis a good source of navigation? How much does an average taxi ride cost? What are some cheaper hotels? Can we be safe by ourselves? Any info. would be great! Thanks a lot! =)

What does the Chicago Union Station look like in terms of spending time waiting for a bus/train? Do they have coffee shops where one can sit and read something without being hurried out by the owners?
