You could go greyhound… …looks like it takes about 20 hours and you cross at windsor.

If you don’t mind switching companies in Detroit Megabus is a new discount bus system to consider. It does not yet serve Canada so you would have to go Greyhound from there.
I know you said you prefer bus but train is a great way to get between those points – Amtrak to Detroit and Via Rail in Canada. We took Via Rail from Windsor to Montreal and on to Quebec City in college in 1987, great trip.
J’aime Montreal, c’est ville tres belle…bon voyage!

The time ranges from a low of 20 hours to a high of one day. I would SERIOUSLY think about flying. Granted if you buy your bus ticket at least two weeks in advance it could cost around $54, but riding on a bus is a long, boring trip that will leave you exhausted.
You say that you HAVE to get to Chicago, which sounds like time is important to you. If so, look into flights. If you book far enough in advance, you can get a ticket pretty cheaply (are you going one way or round trip?). more than the bus, but you could get to Chicago in mere hours. Look into the plane. The bus all the way from Montreal should be a last resort.
