You could hire a private limo for about $50 (minus tip), if money is no object. Any Time Limo has a businessman special - $50 per hour for a Lincoln Town car. It shouldn't take you more than an hour to get to Highland Park. check them out:

Limo Chicago is another place to check out (http://www.limochicago.com/). But they're a little more expensive: about $80 and hour for Chicago to Highland Park. But again, if getting there quickly and with the least hassle is important to you....

Suburban cabs are generally a little cheaper than city cabs. They like to pick up fares back to the suburbs. City cabs don't like to get stranded so far away and want to charge a return fare...empty.

Here are 3 Northshore cab companies. Call before leaving to make sure they give rides from Chgo to suburbs. Suburban cabs are prohibited from picking up in Chgo unless they have been called to the location beforehand. Note that they all have the same address and phone#:

A) Deerfield Cab Co
2033 Johns Dr, Glenview, 60025 - (847) 433-2000

B) Northbrook Cab Co
2033 Johns Dr, Glenview, 60025 - (847) 446-2000

C) Highland Park Cab Co
2033 Johns Dr, Glenview, 60025 - (847) 433-2000

Space Needle
Underground Tour
Pike Place Market
all the shops on the waterfront

for public transportation, there's buses all over the places, just make sure you have coins on hand!

be sure to have raincoats, this is the rainy time of year for seattle!

A friend or parent driving a U-Haul would be cheaper than a moving company. That's what I did when I moved a few states away. I got on a plane with only a duffel bag and a carry-on and had to stay in a hotel for 3 days until the U-haul got here. As an aside, you don't need that much in a dorm room. I took way too much when I went to college. Have your computer, a radio/stereo and some extra clothes shipped to you. Hit up Target or Wal-Mart for incidentals when you get there. Like pack your bedding with you, but get a new pillow when you get there because they're too bulky to pack. Just have all the stuff you think you need boxed up and FedEx'ed or UPS'ed to your new address the day you leave. That way you'll be there to receive it. Happens all the time in college.

The simplest way to do this would be to take the Orange Line from Midway [very clear signage to get you to the train] to Clark and Lake downtown, then transfer underground to the Blue Line. You'll have to go down 3 escalators to get to the Blue Line. Then you'll take that toward Forest Park [rather than O'Hare, which would send you in the opposite direction] to Clinton, which puts you 2 blocks from the Greyhound station. In that blue line station there is a sign on the wall when you leave the turnstiles showing you which way the Greyhound is.

If you want to take a taxi, fares would probably average $20-$25. The el, by contrast, is $2, and very safe. I used to take the Orange Line regularly, and the worst thing I encountered was a team of hustlers running a gambling game with a little ball under bottle caps. Don't gamble with them, they're slick. People probably won't bother you, and there are always other people on there, especially since it's an airport line.

Also, food at the Greyhound station is expensive. I went there to pick up a friend last weekend and wanted a ginger ale from the vending machine, and it was $2. Almost as bad as Six Flags! So yeah, try to bring some food with you.

Good luck!
