Anywhere from 9 hours to 28 hours, depending on the train and route you taking.

on the Lake Shore Limited
(New York – Albany – Chicago)
travel time 19 hours
on the Cardinal
(New York – Washington, DC – Cincinnati – Indianapolis – Chicago)
travel time 28hours 40m
on the Regional Service to washington dc followed by a transfer to the Capitol Limited
(New York – Washington, DC – Washington, DC – Pittsburgh – Chicago)
travel time 3hours 20m + 4hours transfer + 17h 35m = 24hours 55min
on the Pennsylvanian to pittsburg followed by a transfer to the Capitol Limited
(New York – Pittsburgh – Pittsburgh – Chicago)
travel time 9h 15m + 3hours transfer + 9h 45m = 22 hours
