Need someone who is knowledable with Chicago/Midway?

I am flying into Midway airport and I have to get to the Greyhound Bus Station. What is the cheapest way to get there? Is there a train or local bus I could take that is safe (I am a female traveling alone). Would a taxi be very expensive?

The simplest way to do this would be to take the Orange Line from Midway [very clear signage to get you to the train] to Clark and Lake downtown, then transfer underground to the Blue Line. You’ll have to go down 3 escalators to get to the Blue Line. Then you’ll take that toward Forest Park [rather than O'Hare, which would send you in the opposite direction] to Clinton, which puts you 2 blocks from the Greyhound station. In that blue line station there is a sign on the wall when you leave the turnstiles showing you which way the Greyhound is.

If you want to take a taxi, fares would probably average $20-$25. The el, by contrast, is $2, and very safe. I used to take the Orange Line regularly, and the worst thing I encountered was a team of hustlers running a gambling game with a little ball under bottle caps. Don’t gamble with them, they’re slick. People probably won’t bother you, and there are always other people on there, especially since it’s an airport line.

Also, food at the Greyhound station is expensive. I went there to pick up a friend last weekend and wanted a ginger ale from the vending machine, and it was $2. Almost as bad as Six Flags! So yeah, try to bring some food with you.

    Good luck!
