Travel Dilemma- Bus or Air?

July 16th, 2009 | Posted in Air   3 Comments

I’m travelling from Edmonton, AB to Chicago in a few weeks time. Flights have gotten outrageous, and it’ll cost me about $750 round trip to get there by air. Alternatively, I could take a Greyhound for about $350, but it would take over 2 days of travel time. Is $400 worth 2 days on a bus? I’ve never been on a bus for anywhere near that long, does anyone have experience with trips that long?

how terrorists can get dangerous stuff to the plane?

July 16th, 2009 | Posted in Air   4 Comments

I was traveling recently and during my lay overs I was thinking of how a terrorist could get stuff onto the plane even after going through a security check and having nothing on him/her.

Ok so i went to get a salad, chicken cesar..Wonder how they cut the chicken so neatly, do they have a chefs knife in the kitchen at various restaruants that are beyond the security checkpoint eg Detroit, San Fransisco, Chicago.

How about the sushi restaurants. They cant make sushi without sharp knives.

Serve you food, steaks with a steak knife or with a metal knife??

At the bar there were tons of full liquor bottles??

In the airplane they have electric outlets??

Metal knives in first class??

Bottles that cann be broken and used as a wepond, wine , glassware??

I think there are many ways this stuff could be smuggled aboard, I would be interested in others view points.

I hope the TSA people read these collumns and act upon it to actually make our country and air travel safer

1) A honeybee leaves the hive and travels 2km before returning. Is the displacement for the trip the same as the distance traveled ? If not, why?

2) Two buses depart from Chicago, one going to New York and one going to San Francisco. Each bus travels at a speed of 30m/s. Do they have equal velocities? Explain.

3) Often, traffic lights are timed ao that you travel at a certain speed, you can avoid all red lights. Discuss how the timing of lights is determined, considering that the distance between them varies from one to the next.

4) One of the following statements is incorrect. (a) the car traveled around the track at a consstant velocity. (b) the car traveled around the track at a constant speed. Which statement is incorrect? why?

What is the best/safest way to get to Chicago?

I was wondering if anyone knew what the best and safest way was to travel by public transportation was? I looked up the megabus and some train (can’t remember the name). Are there any other forms of public transportation, like a different bus or train? Whenever I decide to leave for Chicago, it will only be a weeks notice and the earliest I can get a ticket for the bus or train. For the megabus it would be like $60 there and back. And for the train, over $100. I really can’t spend over $100 dollars. So if anyone knows of a cheap way to get there, I’m all ears! :)
I plan to visit my boyfriend so someway or another I have to be able to get there. I’m kind of nervous because I’ll be going by myself and i don’t know what to expect on a bus or train since I’ve never went on one, it’s even more scary going alone it seems. I’m only 19 years old and my car is not a reliable enough source for me to get there and plus, gas is way too expensive.

Thanks for any information in advance!!! :) Also, I live in Toledo, Ohio, So that is where I would be departing from to get to Chicago.

How much is deducted after each use of the Chicago Card?

July 9th, 2009 | Posted in Bus   2 Comments

I would like to calculate which method of public transportation would be cheaper for the month–a chicago card or a 30-day bus pass?

The 30-day pass is $75. I have no idea how Chicago card deducts money for each use. I know with transit cards, sometimes they deduct $2 the first time, then a lower amount. Still not sure about the pattern within a given time. Anyone who knows or has a good link for how to find this out, please let me know. I’ve tried chicagocard and chicagotransitauthority.com but haven’t found out about how much is deducted each time.

*I’m travelling across the city to downtown, and a car is not an option for me.

How long can a beta fish survive in a container without air holes? (.or I guess can it?)?

I need to take a metra train home from school for winter break. Since I’m at school in Chicago I need to walk, take the el, walk, and then get on the train….all while carrying a bunch of stuff. I would like to transport my beta in a plastic cup with a lid on it so that it is much much easier to carry. How long can it go without oxygen holes in the container? (I can take the lid off once I get on the train, and it takes about 30 mins to travel/get on the train)

What can you take with you on Air Tran flights?

July 8th, 2009 | Posted in Air   2 Comments

We are flying out of Midway airport on Sunday. We are flying on Air Trans. We have never flown with them before. How soon should we get there because they have paper tickets and we don’t have our seats assigned yet? We are traveling with 6 people. Our flight is at 7:30 in the morning. I think we are planning to get there at about 5:00. Also, we are going on our 4th cruise, and it is to the Caribbean. So, we need to take sunscreen. I like the kind that comes in an aerosol bottle, but I don’t think you’re allowed to take that with you. Can you? If not, it is fine because we have a bunch of other sun screen. Thanks. Also, how is Air Tran? Do you like it. Our friend who travels a lot says it is a good air line to take out of Midway. Also, where is Midway. We have heard many different things about where it is. We live in Northeast Indiana, so usually we fly out of Fort Wayne or Indianapolis. We have never flown out of Chicago before. It was the cheapest one we could find though.
